Afrobeats artist Oloye brings the sounds of West Africa to Houston

HOUSTON – Afrobeats is having a global moment thanks to its vibrant mix of hip-hop, R&B, reggae, and West African rhythms.

Houston-based artist Oloye is one of the most recognizable rising artists of his genre in our city.

He spoke to Houston Life and performed live in our studio his new single ' Odo Sisi,’ a song about finding true love.

Known for years as Fweshie Oloye, he was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, and moved to Houston in 2016 to pursue his music career.

“There’s an active African/Nigerian community here so it was easy for me to settle and navigate,” he said.

His first official single, Rumo, caught the attention of local audiences with regular spins in the clubs and radio and he’s been a frequent fixture of the H-town Afrobeats scene ever since allowing him to open for some of the biggest names in Afrobeats such as Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido.

Oloye is working on his new EP and is promoting his single ‘Body.’
