Houston – Happy Lunar New Year! 🐉
The Chinese Community Center is hosting their annual Lunar New Year celebration this weekend. The Lunar New Year is unlike the western New Year you’re used to, the celebrations last longer than a day depending on the culture.
Lunar New Year is based on the movement of the moon. So, the beginning of each month always starts from the new moon, and that is why Lunar New Year is not synced with the western New Year.
In China, 12 animals represent each year and 12 years equals up to a cycle. This year in 2024, is the year of the dragon! The dragon holds a cultural significance in the holiday. They symbolize charisma, confidence, energy and independence.
They represent power and authority over the seas and rain.
The Chinese Community Center is a multi-ethnic organization serving all Houstonians. They aim to bridge the East and West by enriching families with educational, cultural, and social service programs.
The Lunar New Year festival, now in it’s 21st year, will kick off a series of exciting Asian Heritage seasonal programs that will highlight the culinary delights, artistic wonders, and ancient traditions of Asian cultures.
Come be a part of the FREE fun, food and festivities.
