Houston – For decades, 101 KLOL-FM stood as a beacon of rock music, captivating audiences with its eclectic playlists, dynamic DJs, and unparalleled charisma.
Now, veteran media blogger, Mike McGuff is offering a blast into the past with his new documentary “Runaway Radio”. Since 1970, few stations have commanded the same level of respect and nostalgia as 101 KLOL. With its format and larger-than-life personalities, the station stood out and captured the hearts and minds of listeners across the greater Houston area.
Those behind the mics did the same. “Runaway Radio” features conversations with iconic DJs Dayna Steele, Jim Pruett, Outlaw Dave, and more. The documentary also includes stories from legends in the industry like Lyle Lovett, ZZ Top’s Dusty Hill, Melissa Etheridge, Sammy Hagar, Carmine Appice, and Dug Pinnick.
“Runaway Radio” has been in the works for years. McGuff offers a behind-the-scenes look revisiting the station’s wild history using archival footage, exclusive interviews, and personal stories. He paints a vivid portrait of KLOL’s rise to popularity, its legacy, and its final show in 2004.
“Runaway Radio” is available to stream on several platforms but audiences are invited to experience the nostalgia firsthand at several screenings followed by a Q&A with McGuff. Screenings begin March 2 at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema LaCenterra in Katy or throughout March at select locations of Star Cinema Grill.
