HOUSTON – “When I was 3 years old, my father nicknamed me Teeda-girl and it stuck with me through my whole life. When I had my first grandchild, they said what are you going to be called, I said, let’s just keep the same nickname,” said Theresa Hildreth, author of “Teeda Says, ‘Be Patient’”.
Hildreth wrote the children’s book featuring characters based on her and her grandchildren. It is filled with beautiful illustrations by Kenny Kiernan, who has worked with top companies like Marvel, Disney, and Lego.
The book follows a young girl named Audrey, the same name as Hildreth’s granddaughter, and her excitement about bringing her grandmother Teeda’s favorite animal to bring a pet to school week, a butterfly. In the book, Audrey and her classmate discover the wonders of butterflies but must take Teeda’s advice and be patient.
The inspiration for writing a book came to Hildreth while she spent her afternoons on the porch with her granddaughter Audrey, who was only five years old at that time. However, similar to the book, Hildreth had to be patient due to unforeseen life circumstances. As a result, the dream of writing a book remained on hold for a decade until her granddaughter, who is now sixteen, encouraged Hildreth to finish the book.
