Houston – The Houston Doom women’s premier tackle football team is ready to dominate the field.
2024 marks the United States Premier Women’s Football League’s (USPWFL) inaugural season. The league is dedicated to promoting women’s football and providing opportunities for female athletes to excel in the sport.
The league and Houston Doom are spearheaded by owner Todd Rogers, as well as coaches and co-owners Daryl Hobbs and Curtis Pippin. All three are passionate about breaking down gender barriers and promoting equality in sports.
FUN FACT: The Houston Doom play with Zena Douglas pads. You may know Douglas pads as the accessory to keep players safe on the field. The Doom’s commissioner, Pamela McQueer designed the Zena series. These pads are contoured to fit women.
Linebacker Mattie Broussard expressed her excitement for the start of the league in April. She has always been a fan of football, but she didn’t have a place to play. She eventually got connected to Rogers and the rest of the coaching staff before trying out for the team.
Coach Hobbs comes from a long football career. He played five seasons with the Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders, the New Orleans Saints, and the Seattle Seahawks.
This season marks Coach Pippin’s 22nd year coaching women’s football. He tells Houston Life the Houston Doom is a passionate group of women with a big support system behind them.
Owner Todd Rogers created the USPWFL and hopes to inspire young girls and women to pursue their dreams in football and challenge societal norms.
Catch the season opener in Austin as Houston Doom takes on the Austin Angels. The ladies are back in Houston for the first home game on May 11 at Willow Ridge High School against the Tennessee Enforcers.
