Houston – Derrick Shore is known as the founding father of Houston Life, and every April 1, we celebrate him.
In the past, the Houston Life team has tried to pull a fast one on him but since it’s also April Fools’, he’s on high alert. Derrick is just too good and foils our plans every time.
This year, we decided to think outside of the box. What does Derrick Shore like more than anything?
A routine...but, it has to be perfect.
Lauren Kelly also had some tricks up her sleeve. She visited the Lancaster Hotel which Derrick frequents for date night. Director of food and beverage Alan Levine started with the “Relentless” cocktail for Astros fans but ended with the “Derrick Shore Martini.” The martini features a Kettle One vodka martini. It must be a little dirty with a single olive. The Lancaster is serving this martini all week, just say you want the “Derrick Shore Martini.”
Our friends at The Houston Zoo also stopped by with a slithery friend. Assistant Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs Jackie Wallace was joined by zookeeper Marisol Gomez and ‘Jolt’. He’s a Sonoran Gopher Snake housed at the zoo.
Finally, the team thought that maybe a cooking segment for National Sourdough Day would do the trick....but it didn’t. Timely Rain AKA Tara Cooper stopped by with her “75-year-old” sourdough starter gifted to her by her grandmother. As the segment went on, Derrick slowly realized Tara was not the bread connoisseur she was made out to be. It left him covered in sticky dough and tears.
Timely is actually an improv artist here in Houston. Even though Derrick caught us, she didn’t disappoint.
It was definitely a birthday to remember.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DERRICK! WE LOVE YOU!
