Houston – For 50 years, the Houston Area Parkinson’s Society has grown into a non-profit organization that serves eight counties in the Houston metropolitan area. Their mission is to make sure that no one faces the diagnosis alone and that individuals and their families have exactly what they need.
HAPS says they are an organization guided by compassion, fueled by optimism, and driven to make an impact. Because of that, they offer transportation, financial assistance, therapeutic exercise groups, support groups, social services, and educational programs at no cost.
On Houston Life, HAP executive director Kathleen Crist expanded on the conversation along with director of outreach Maggie Abbott who demonstrated Parkinson’s friendly exercises that could slow progression, manage symptoms, and avoid isolation.
HAPS is hosting its annual Blues, Brews & BBQ fundraising event on April 21 at Wicklow Heights from 12-4 p.m., to raise funds to support their free programs. Visit their website for more information and to buy tickets.
