Houston – For 12 years, the East End Street Fest has remained an iconic hub for Mexican culture and heritage.
The event returns to The Esplanade on Saturday, May 4 to bring in Cinco de Mayo weekend. From mariachis to mouthwatering food, there’s something for everyone.
Festival director Lupe Olivarez says during the six-hour run of the festival, the entertainment lineup is exciting and educational from historic Aztec dancing to present-day Chicano lowriders. Olivarez says more than 100 people will be present to provide music, arts, food, and culture reflective of the East End for the festival and its attendees.
On Houston Life, we got a preview of the kind of entertainment at the festival. The talented Ballet Folklorico Herencia Mexicana de Houston made our studio just a little more colorful with a vibrant performance.
Car lovers will also enjoy the festival with the lowrider car collection at the Show & Shine area while the kids bounce around at the Plaza de los Niños.
The East End Street Fest is also a great place to purchase items from small and local businesses. Manager of operations for The Esplanade Julian Garcia says more than 80 vendors will be on-site to sell their cultural goods.
Olivarez and Garcia urge the community to come out and take part in the fun for the whole family.
