Houston – This year at the Olympics, breakdancing will take centerstage. The newly recognized sport with hip-hop roots has come a long way from its humble Bronx beginnings.
Jaime “Venum” Burgos has been breakdancing for years. He has danced with artists like Janet Jackson and Justin Bieber; but when the pandemic caused him to pause his gig income, he went another route. That switch led him to menotr his young protégé, B-Boy Flippers.
“I decided to start teaching online, I started an online business called Break Methodz, and they found me and had me work with Flipper,” Burgos told Houston Life.
B-Boy Flippers started dancing just before the age of 5 years old. He will soon travel to Slovenia for the Kids World Breakdancing Competition.
“We have to thank his parents first, they provide all this for him, he has an incredible work ethic also because of his family,” Burgos said.
B-Boy Flippers’ lifestyle consists of homeschooling and practicing his moves for three hours a day.
“He keeps the integrity of the dance, He’s all-around B-Boy,” Burgos said.
Being all-around, according to Burgos, means having a true connection with the music and the ability to execute power moves, top rock, footwork, difficult tricks, freezes, and flips.
“It’s kind of exhausting, but when you do it for 5 or 6 years it gets easier and easier,” B-Boy Flippers said.
Burgos and B-Boy Flippers shared what they do best for the Houston Life team in Studio B. Watch them as they break out in style in the video above.
B-Boy Flippers is preparing to compete in the World Kidz Breaking Championship in Slovenia. We wish him all the best!
