HOUSTON – Dive into World Ocean Day, an internationally recognized day dedicated to honoring, protecting, and conserving the world’s oceans.
Officially recognized by the United Nations since 2008, World Ocean Day aims to encourage individuals and organizations to celebrate ocean diversity through educational and community programs and to promote awareness about ocean life and issues like pollution and climate change.
This summer, you can experience the magic of the ocean in Galveston with the non-profit conservation group Artist Boat at the World Ocean Day Festival. They have teamed up with Visit Galveston, Moody Gardens, UTMB Health, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to bring fun, free activities for everyone to enjoy and learn about ocean conservation.
“We really want people to come to Galveston, experience the ocean, and learn,” said Artist Boat Executive Director Karla Klay.
The weekend lineup starts with a film screening on June 6 at Moody Gardens.
Then, tour the nature trails on June 7 and learn how to transcribe your observations in your own nature journal with award-winning author Kimberly Ridley. This activity will continue at the larger World Ocean Day Festival on June 8.
At the festival, guests will enjoy eco-workshops, exhibits, drum circles, water coloring, bucket brigade beach tours, bucket art contests, and nature journaling. Enjoy a day at the beach while learning more about protecting our planet.
