HOUSTON – The Houston community is invited to come together and celebrate the 126th anniversary of Philippine Independence and nationhood with a special event.
Kalayaan 2024 is a FREE celebration - featuring the best of Filipino food, art, music, dance, and entertainment.
The Houston event is a partnership with the Philippine Consulate General of Houston.
Kalayaan commemorates the declaration of Philippine independence from Spanish rule on June 12, 1898. It also marks the end of over 300 years of Spanish colonization.
This event is important because it helps foster a sense of national pride and unity among Filipinos and serves as a reminder of the country’s rich history and cultural heritage.
But we don’t just celebrate Kalayaan here in the U.S.
Overseas Filipino communities also celebrate Kalayaan, strengthening their connection to the homeland and fostering a sense of unity and identity among Filipinos worldwide.
Consul Gilbert Segarra from the Philippine Consulate of Houston and Dr. Clemente Logronio, chairman of the Philippine Kalayaan Houston stopped by “Houston Life” to chat about Kalayaan 2024 and what it means to the Filipino community in Houston.
Kalayaan 2024 is happening Saturday, June 15 at the Fort Bend Epicenter from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Admission is FREE.
The festival also brings in Filipino celebrities like this year’s special guest, Gary Valenciano.
