Fun ways animals and guests can stay cool at the Houston Zoo this summer

HOUSTON – If you’re heading out to the Houston Zoo this summer, they’ve got plenty of ways they’re keeping not only the animals cool, but of course the guests as well!

Whether it’s taking a dip in their pools or enjoying an icy treat – the animals have plenty of ways to stay cool and hydrated during the hot afternoons.

For guests, there are cold drinks and snacks all throughout the zoo, plus there are plenty of air-conditioned spaces and shaded areas too. The Galapagos Islands exhibit has plenty of AC as you walk through it!

Speaking of Galapagos, the tortoises love to cool down with showers - and it’s super adorable to watch them get refreshed in this Houston heat.

Jackie Wallace, Houston Zoo Assistant Vice President, Communications & Public Affairs said the best times to come to the Zoo are early in the morning right when it opens, or even when it’s slightly raining outside. The animals don’t mind the rain either!

Watch as Lauren Kelly, Jackie, and Houston Zoo Herpetology Keeper Mel Hodges cool down some of the tortoises and show off some ice cols beverages guests can enjoy.
