The city’s only black-owned brewery is celebrating 713 Day with a limited editon lager

Houston – To most Americans, July 13 is just another summer day. In Houston, 7/13 marks the unofficial holiday celebrating everything H-town! 713 is one of three area codes serving the Houston area.

This 713 Day, think about stopping by the city’s only black and brown-owned brewery. For The Culture Brewing has teamed up with the Atlanta-based lifestyle brand Draught Season to create “The Blacker The Berry” rice lager.

Draught Season is a brand for those who love craft beer and love to show it. This is their first collaboration with For The Culture and they will be on site during the 713 Day beer release event with their merchandise for sale.

Co-founder of For The Culture Carl Roaches Jr. stopped by Studio B to give us a taste of the lager that has notes of blueberries. Hence the name! Roaches Jr. says it’s light, refreshing, and perfect for summertime.

When starting the brewery, the co-founders wanted to bring good brew to the demographics seemingly “ignored” by craft beer. For the Culture Brewing is part of a duo of breweries at 7201 Wynnpark Drive in the city’s northwest side. They share the space with Ovinnik Brewing. A women-owned brewery and like For The Culture, they share similar visions of bringing craft beer to more people of color and gender. Together, both breweries are called “Craft Culture X.”
