Experience Houston’s diverse indie music scene at the Solar Flare Music Festival

Houston – It’s no surprise, the City of Houston is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to music. Now, there’s a new event to look forward to.

The first-ever Solar Flare Music Festival is taking place on August 3 and it’s set up to be a day full of entertainment.

In 2022, local artist Madison Elaine wanted to know more about Houston’s music scene. Somewhere she can find artists, bands, and concerts all in one place. So, she created Houston Music Classifieds. It’s a free resource for anyone looking to expand their music taste within the city. She started posting anonymously online and on social media and soon enough their anniversary party saw a crowd of over 300 people.

Solar Flare Music Festival has been five months in the making and now it is less than a month away. From the incredible harmonies of Astralace and the nostalgic indie vibes of Marley Moon to the energetic performance of Daze and Vosotros, the festival boasts a journey through a wide variety of genres.

Elaine stopped by Studio B to chat about the upcoming festival with her colleagues Shelby Mathews, lead photographer, and Regine Gwenyth, artist and vendor coordinator. The festival will not be limited to just music. Gwenyth says she’s working on a host of local vendors and small businesses to feature. Mathews serves as the lead photographer and band interviewer for Houston Music Classifieds, helping to build the brand’s identity. All three hope the festival grows into something bigger and permanent in the city.

Everyone in Studio B was grooving as Marley Moon and her husband Clay Cooke played “I Wanna Feel Alive” from her 2022 LP “Everything is Real!” With Cooke on the bass guitar and Moon on the omnichord, (what the heck is an omnichord) a sense of joy and nostalgia resonated throughout the studio.
