HOUSTON – Get ready to stay fit and healthy for you and your little one!
Fitness expert Erica Hood from HoodFit and a friend of ‘Houston Life’ who is expecting twins designed some home workouts specifically for moms-to-be. These workouts will help you stay active and strong throughout your pregnancy journey.
But, before you jump right into the workout, Hood suggests the following tips:
- Check with your healthcare provider first: moderate exercise is safe for most pregnant women, but make sure you’re cleared to continue working out.
- Stay at your pre-pregnancy fitness level (and modify as needed): Staying active is good for both you and your baby. If the exercises you were doing before you became pregnant are still comfortable, keep doing them.
- Make sure your body has fuel for your prenatal workout: it’s important to have a pre-workout snack or juice 15 to 30 minutes before.
- Stay hydrated and avoid overheating: Pregnant women should generally be drinking around eight to 10 glasses of water per day. And if you’re exercising, you’re going to need more.
While it’s generally safe to continue working out normally in the first trimester, you will need to modify exercises in the second and third trimesters. For example, no crunches/sit-ups or exercises lying on your back or stomach.
Watch the video above of the low-impact, full-body strength workout she demonstrates that will keep you active.
