HOUSTON – What began as a hobby of rescuing dogs evolved into a full-time passion project.
Zuleikha Tyebjee and Jeff Burger founded Foster Doc Houston Dog Rescue in 2022. The husband and wife team is medically trained to care for humans, but their passion is to save many four-legged, furry creatures from the streets and match them with the right family.
On Foster Doc’s Instagram page, the couple describes themselves as “a human doc and nurse trying to save as many pups as possible.”
Tyebjee was on “Houston Life” in March, close to Easter when she partnered with Three Dog Bakery for its Easter Begg Hunt.
Tyebjee still works in the medical field practicing family medicine today, while Burger no longer works as a nurse and shifted his focus on rescue efforts. Their incredible, new journey led them to the countryside in Magnolia to provide rescue dogs with a haven with an open field where they can playfully roam safely.
In the past two years, they have saved 100 dogs. But, they need your help with the rescue efforts. The couple hopes to expand their shelter with on-site vets, special senior areas, whelping rooms, and a larger shelter area to accommodate future rescues.
So, how can you help?
Tyebjee and Burger are planning an Art Show Dog Fundraiser, showcasing local artists, including Burger’s pieces. All the money raised from this event will benefit Foster Doc Houston’s mission. You can support them by attending the event, meeting some artists, purchasing artwork, and enjoying delicious drinks and food donated by Angel Bar HTX.
