Watch Houston Life surprise a high school teacher while she was busy teaching class!

HOUSTON – Mrs. Griffith has spent many years in the classroom during her 25 years as a teacher, but never has a TV crew come bursting into class bearing gifts like they did on Wednesday, August 21st!

The high school teacher has worked for 22 years in Fort Bend ISD and 18 at Hightower High School. Currently, Mrs. Griffith teaches advanced placement classes in psychology and macroeconomics. She was busy teaching her PALS—Peer Assistance and Leadership Students—when Houston Life’s Melanie Camp and Jackie Espinoza from Shell Federal Credit Union arrived on campus to surprise Mrs. Griffith. They honored her as an amazing educator and delivered some back-to-school love in the form of a gift basket loaded with handy classroom items and a $250 gift card.

Ms. Franchelle Hall, a former student who has become a teacher, track coach, and cheer coach, brought a group of cheerleaders into the classroom to help celebrate the moment. Ms. Hall said Mrs. Griffith was the reason she wanted to be a teacher.

Student Cadynce Myles stepped up to the microphone to share how Mrs. Griffith helped her through a period during her second year of high school. “I was going through a lot of changes as a person, and she really helped me blossom.” Myles shared that Mrs. Griffith ultimately inspired her decision to begin working toward a career in psychiatry. “She is actually the reason I want to become a psychiatrist,” she said.
