Catching up with Spring’s hometown girl, Simone Biles

The Gold Over America Tour is coming to Toyota Center October 19th

Simone Biles has finally had some time to digest the whirlwind Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“I’m proud of my performances, I feel like we went over there and did the job that we were expected to do, so I can’t be mad at whatever happened,” Biles told Houston Life.

These most recent games were much more interactive given that COVID all but shut down the 2020 Tokyo games. During those unprecedented times, Simone’s family had to hang back and cheer her on from Houston. Paris 2024 was different in the best way.

“Support and family mean the world to me, so to have them in that arena, it just gave me this sense of comfort that I didn’t have at the last Olympics,” Biles admitted.

Speaking with Simone is easy. She isn’t just well-coached on the mat, she’s also a media pro. Biles receives every question thrown at her with authenticity. It’s not hard to picture her behind a microphone, behind a camera, or even hosting her own show.

“I actually have before, I think it would be amazing, to have athletes on it, but we have to get through all of this first. I’m trying to live in the now and soak up this moment and the accomplishments but definitely in the future that would be something cool” Biles said.

The this she is referring to is, the Gold Over America Tour which will feature world class athletes and Olympics performing at Toyota Center, October 19th.

“It’ll just be a fun party, good gymnastics, good vibes and we hope really everyone enjoys the show,” Biles said.

Simone is beloved practically anywhere she decides to show up. So, why Houston? Turns out, the people here are pretty awesome.

“They’ve supported me and done so much for me throughout my entire career so just to be here in the community to inspire the younger generation is just super exciting to me,” she beamed.

Despite her popularity soaring to mega heights, the GOAT remains humble.

“I’m just like anybody else, I’m very gifted at something specific that I do but other than that I’m just like anyone else, I’m just Simone from Spring,” she smiled.

Simone just has her head on straight. She’s been criticized, scrutinized, and idolized (probably all in the same day if she’s checking her mentions on the X). However, Biles isn’t just the queen of gymnastics, she’s the queen of prioritizing mental health. She’s a reminder that self-care isn’t selfish and performance at any level requires getting the mind right.

“You have to be in tune with your mind and your body because it is very connected, if you are in tune with your mind then everything else follows and I know how important that is. Even this morning I was in therapy again; it’s just part of my daily routine, I know it keeps me grounded, it keeps me in tune with myself so that’s why I do it,” Biles said.
