Learn how to ‘power’ through stress and find a work-life balance

HOUSTON – This time of year can be hectic for families. From getting the kids back into school routines, to managing a household, and going to work – it can be a real challenge for anyone to juggle it all.

Dr. Shana D. Lewis, a licensed professional counselor and wellness coach, wants those busy parents (and MOMS especially) to know it’s ok to take a break and focus on yourself for a change.

She recently shared some tips to help anyone power through stress on Houston Life.

But first, she says you have to recognize and understand the common “stressors” in your life.

1. Overwhelming Responsibilities: Many female entrepreneurs and leaders feel the weight of wearing multiple hats simultaneously. The pressure to excel in each role - as a business owner, mother, and individual - can lead to feelings of being overwhelmed and stretched too thin.

2. Guilt and Self-Doubt: There’s often an internal struggle with guilt over not being able to give 100% to every aspect of their lives. This guilt can be compounded by society expectations and self-imposed standards, leading to self-doubt and questioning their capabilities.

3. Time Scarcity: The perception of never having enough time to meet all demands creates a constant state of stress. This can affect your ability to make clear decisions, prioritize effectively, and maintain healthy work-life integration.

4. Health Impacts: Chronic stress from trying to juggle business, family, and self-care can have significant health implications, including mental health struggles (like anxiety and depression), and physical health issues (such as fatigue and weakened immune response).
