Houston – For years, women everywhere have been faced with an impossible choice: style or comfort. Thanks to Houston entrepreneur Dr. Steffie Tomson, the choice has never been clearer.
As a former neuroscientist at the Texas Medical Center, Dr. Tomson spent her days navigating meetings after meetings all around campus in professional attire. She often wore heels that left her feet aching after thousands of steps. Dr. Tomson realized, “You know what? I’m a neuroscientist. I have big things to be thinking about. Why am I thinking about my shoes right now? So I realized there had to be a better option.”
That better option became Getaway Sticks; her revolutionary idea that combines the elegance of high heels with the comfort of sneaker foam. After cutting open her favorite pair of “comfortable” heels in a lab, Tomson discovered the root of the problem: traditional heels are packed with hard materials like plastic and metal that don’t absorb shock, leaving women’s feet, joints, and backs to bear the burden. Determined to find a solution, she designed heels with two vertical inches of foam, mimicking the materials used in running shoes. The result? A stylish heel that allows women to walk all day without discomfort.
