Pumpkin hummus and espresso cheese. Are these food and drink pairings worth trying this fall?

Houston – Have you heard of the term yap? It’s trending on TikTok right now and the short-form video app is full of yappers! Content creators are reclaiming the term as a way of explaining a good night chatting with friends or just rambling on about a certain conversation.

On Houston Life, with fall quickly approaching on Sunday, Sept. 22, we decided to yap about fall food and drink pairings. We know the classic flavors of pumpkin spice and apple but are these combos worth yapping about all season long?

We invited our friend and entertainment expert Paul Zahn to show us some easy and delicious sips and bites to try. Spoiler alert, Derrick and Tessa loved them all.

Pairing 1: Honey bourbon cocktail with an apple honey cheese bite

This autumn cocktail pairing features Bärenjäger Honey Liqueur with apple cider and lemon juice.

Zahn paired it with Carr Valley Cheese’s apple-smoked cheddar topped off with a drizzle of hot honey.

Pairing 2: Pumpkin spice espresso martini with a pumpkin pie charcuterie bite

Pumpkin is a polarizing flavor but it is that time of year! Why not fold pumpkin pie dessert hummus into your charcuterie board atop a cracker with a slice of espresso BellaVitano cheese and pepitas? This bite pairs well with Zahn’s pumpkin spice espresso martini using espresso, pumpkin syrup, coffee liquor, and Haku vodka.

Pairing 3: A popcorn mix and an apple spritz

Dessert is always welcome but what about a popcorn party mix with some dried fruits paired with a wine or spritz? Some people love these combos while others

would pass. For the sip, Zahn showed us an apple spritz. He used apple cider, Olipop crisp apple drink, and Riondo prosecco. Make it a mocktail by omitting the prosecco. He paired it with popcorn with dried fruit mixed in. It’s sweet and salty!

Zahn always bring fun and flair to Studio B, connect with him here to learn more.
