Carnival, live music, ProRodeo, and a zebra that climbs on horse truck?

Check out the fun at the Pasadena Rodeo. On now!

HOUSTON – The 75th annual Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo is on now! Running eight days from Friday, September 20th, through Saturday, September 28th, the event brings eight days of FFA animals, ProRodeo action, and live entertainment to the Pasadena Rodeo grounds.

For a quarter of a century, the Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo have supported youth and education in the community by providing days jam-packed with entertainment for the whole family.

Houston Life’s Melanie Camp checked out the fun of day one and got a sneak peek at an extraordinary act from rodeo legend John Payne, known as The One Arm Bandit from Shidler, Oklahoma.

Payne’s performance has won the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PCRA) Rodeo Act of the Year 15 times! Let’s say this: it involves a Mustang, a Paint Horse, and a zebra climbing onto a horse trailer! Look at part of the act in the video above.

Payne may joke that his one arm is the real deal and not just a costume worn for the act, but the cowboy is lucky to be alive. He lost his arm after suffering electrocution while helping demolish a home. “I’m no professional electrician. I’m a cowboy,” he said, explaining how thousands of volts of electricity burned his fingers and arm, ripping through his body. He flatlined for several minutes. “I was dead for five minutes and had to have CRP. The guy had dip in his mouth, and I never did like dipping after that,” he said.
