Aspiring country artist Trey Brandt chases his dream thanks to the Dash Gordon Foundation

Houston – If you’re seeking inspiration today, look no further than Trey Brandt, a 28-year-old aspiring country music artist from Katy.

Brandt, who has Down syndrome, is still buzzing over his first single “I Love You to the Moon and Back.” A heartfelt song he wrote for his mother, Julie, thanking her for a lifetime of love and support.

On Houston Life, Trey shared how his journey as an artist began. Despite the challenges of growing up with a disability, Trey spoke about how being an artist has been the best thing that ever happened to him. Trey reflected on how his mother’s unwavering support shaped his success. “She’s my rock, and I appreciate all the love she gave me.” Trey’s talents have not gone unnoticed. He has collaborated with artist Jason Allen on the song dedicated to his mom. Trey even had the chance to meet former Houston Texan JJ Watt, who helped Trey prove students wrong when they didn’t believe he was friends with the NFL star.

Beyond his music, Trey also spoke about the challenges he faced growing up with Down syndrome, especially during his high school years. He revealed that at one point, his mother was advised to place him in a group home, a recommendation she did not follow. “They gave her a book, with a list of group homes to put me in,” Trey recalled. “But she kept me, and like I tell my mom ‘I will never go into a group home because my home is where my family is.’”

Joining Trey during the interview was Timothy Glover, aka “Dash Gordon” a real-life superhero who has dedicated his life to uplifting individuals with special needs, disabilities, and those at risk. Glover, who himself grew up in the foster care system, knows firsthand the challenges that many face. His foundation works to empower those who feel isolated and overlooked. “Each individual I meet has some sort of superhuman ability that none of us can fathom,” he explained. “Trey, and others like him, inspire me to magnify their voices.”

Trey’s upcoming performance at a pageant hosted by the Dash Gordon Foundation further exemplifies his dedication and success. At the event, Trey will sing the national anthem and perform his single with Jason Allen.

If you want to see Trey perform, A Night to Remember hosted by the Dash Gordon Foundation takes place on October 18 at One Life Church in Webster. It’s a night of celebration for the special needs community, and Trey is sure to light up the stage.
