Apollo Chamber Players kick off new season about liberty with George Takei

HOUSTON – Happening this Saturday, October 5, the Apollo Chamber Players will premiere their new season ‘We the People’ with a special guest star George Takei.

The performance marks the start of Apollo Chamber Players’ 17th season with four upcoming concerts that blend music and personal storytelling to delve into themes of liberty, opportunity diversity, and freedom during challenging historical times.

Known for his iconic role as Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu in ‘Star Trek,’ Takei will take center stage with the Apollo Chamber Players at Hobby Center for the Performing Arts at this weekend’s performance, ‘Liberty.’ Instead of playing a character, Takei will take on a more personal role, where he shares personal reflections on his family’s experience in a Japanese internment camp during World War II.

Takei and Apollo Chamber Players stopped by ‘Houston Life’ today with a little preview. Watch their performance in the video above and see them in person on October 5. Click here for tickets.

‘We the People’ explores multiple themes centering around democratic values through music across four concerts.

  • First with Liberty performing on October 5
  • The second concert focuses on Opportunity on January 4, 2025
  • Then the concert will showcase Diversity on March 21, 2025
  • lastly, on May 10 and May 18, 2025, they will celebrate Freedom
