Beloved Houston bar Julep celebrates Día de los Muertos with classic Mexican spirits

HOUSTON – When Alba Huerta was growing up in Mexico, she never imagined the life she would one day build in Houston.

Now, as the owner of Julep, the popular bar on Washington Blvd. and recent recipient of the James Beard Award for Best Bar Program, Huerta is now celebrating ten years of bringing her Mexican roots to the Houston bar scene.

“I like to tell people that it’s okay to dream. You have to dream, you have to dream big,” says Huerta, who was honored as one of Entrepreneur’s ‘100 Women of Influence’ in 2022.

Julep and Huerta have also received accolades from the Houston Chronicle, Time Magazine, Food & Wine, Houstonia Magazine and a long list of other distinguished publications including Esquire Magazine, which named Julep one of the ‘Best Bars in America.’

Follow Julep on instagram to keep up with their special events celebrating their 10th anniversary and Día de los Muertos.
