HOUSTON – Calling all theater lovers. There is a new theater company in town.
Lionwoman Productions TX is a new performing arts organization founded by actress, comedienne, and producer Michelle Britton. With over 30 years of theater background, Britton aims to lift voices, celebrate diversity, and create positive change in the community through her organization.
Before making her debut with her first production, Britton is already positively impacting the community. She has partnered with Angela House, a non-profit organization that assists women in transitioning back into society after incarceration. This collaboration is part of Lionwoman Productions' ‘Our Voices/Ourselves’ program. Participants in these workshops express their experiences creatively through monologues and scenes, culminating in a final showcase open to an audience.
On November 7, the talented ladies from Lionwomen Productions will take center stage at Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston. They‘re putting on their very first show with “Playhouse Creatures” set in 1660 London. A time when women were first permitted to perform on stage. The play focuses on five real-world actresses while navigating through 17th-century societal struggles. Click here for tickets.
Written by April De Angeli, this play marks not only Lionwoman Productions' inaugural performance but also the first time this play will be showcased on a Texas stage. Plus, on November 10, audience members can participate in a talkback with the playwright via Zoom.
The stars from the upcoming show “Playhouse Creature” stopped by the studio with a preview. Watch it in the video above.
