Rainbow of Hope Texas empowers youth with autism and veterans through nature and equine therapy

HOUSTONRainbow of Hope Texas is a testament to the power of dreams, faith, and determination. What started as a dream over 35 years ago has blossomed into a thriving nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of autistic youth, veterans, and others with special challenges.

Co-founder and Executive Director for Rainbow of Hope Ann Henderson saw a blue horse arena with a silver star in her dream and heard the name “Rainbow of Hope.” After moving to Rosharon, TX with her husband and daughter in 2013, Ann saw a blue horse arena with a silver star during a motorcycle ride, resembling her dream from long ago.

In 2020, Henderson and her husband founded the organization and developed programs for youth on the spectrum and veterans. Her background as a therapist and experience in the public school system prepared Henderson for her new role. Additionally, Henderson noticed the lack of resources for young autistic adults, which motivated her to continue working with individuals with exceptional challenges.

Henderson and her husband believe that learning in a serene, natural environment fosters life skills, builds confidence, and shapes a positive future. The organization has already served nearly 200 youth and veterans in Brazoria County, helping them develop life skills while providing them with hope and the tools to succeed. Rainbow of Hope also partners with local organizations like Harvest for the Hungry, True to Life Ministries, and The Warriors Refuge to broaden its impact.

On November 16, Rainbow of Hope will host its first-ever fundraiser, Retro Rewind Night. The event, which will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at Spacio.us in Pearland, will feature music and dancing from the 70s and 80s, a costume contest, a retro video game room, a silent auction, and a BBQ dinner. The main goal is to raise funds for an 8-10-passenger van to transport special needs students to and from the farm, alleviating some burden on parents from transporting their children to various locations. With a $10 entry fee and $30 BBQ plates available, the event promises to be a fun and memorable night that supports a worthy cause. Click here to purchase a ticket in advance.
