HOUSTON – T’was three days before Christmas and all throughout Santa’s workshop, the elves are finishing up preparations for the big day. From managing the nice list to wrapping gifts and perfecting Santa’s signature hot chocolate, the pressure is on to make everything just right in “Hot Chocolate the Musical.”
Written and directed by local artist Makaela Reed, Founder and Artistic Director of Tha Chocolate Box, invites the audience into the holiday chaos with audience participation and sing-alongs. Set in Santa’s bustling workshop just days before Christmas, the musical follows the elves through unexpected chaos, and it’s up to Santa’s team and the audience to save Christmas. It’s the perfect holiday fun for the whole family.
Presented by Tha Chocolate Box, this multidisciplinary arts nonprofit organization focuses on providing an immersive theatrical experience and programs in common places like coffee shops and community centers. Founded in October 2020, Tha Chocolate Box is dedicated to making the arts accessible, inclusive, and engaging while amplifying marginalized voices and providing platforms for underrepresented artists.
“We bring in a lot of these artists who have never set foot on a stage before and I personally love seeing them flourish during the time,” said Reed.
This holiday season, Tha Chocolate Box is bringing back the traditional holiday production of Hot Chocolate for the fourth time, but with a musical twist. What started as a simple play transformed into a joyous musical extravaganza. The stage will be set for an immersive theatrical experience filled with humor, catchy tunes, and plenty of chances for audience members to shine to create a one-of-a-kind holiday adventure for all ages.
“Hot Chocolate The Musical” will take center stage for one night only, on December 15 at 7 PM, at the historic Deluxe Theatre in Houston’s Fifth Ward. Scroll below for event details.
