From ballet to movie stage, Kylie Jefferson reflects on her role in Netflix’s ‘The Six Triple Eight’

HOUSTON – The upcoming Netflix film ‘The Six Triple Eight’ tells the inspiring true story of the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas during World War II. Directed by Tyler Perry, the film highlights the courage and resilience of these unsung heroes who faced discrimination while delivering over 17 million backlogged letters to troops.

Actress and choreographer Kylie Jefferson takes on the role of Bernice Baker, who like Jefferson has a dancing background. You can see Jefferson with big names like Kerry Washington, Oprah Winfrey, and Susan Sarandon on your screen starting December 20 on Netflix.

Born, raised, and trained in LA, Jefferson is already accumulating credits as a music video choreographer, actress, and producer of her documentary about her achievements and struggles within the ballet dance community called ‘Kylie.’

Jefferson’s creative journey has come full circle, with new opportunities on the horizon. She began dancing at age four, trained under Debbie Allen’s tutelage at the esteemed Debbie Allen Dance Academy (DADA) when she was six, and worked on choreography with her mentor, Debbie Allen, for the movie ‘The Six Triple Eight.’

In 2025, Jefferson will officially begin her career as a ballet professor at the University of Houston. In the fall of 2024, she had an amazing opportunity as a resident choreographer at the UH dance department. If you see her at the university or out and about on the street, give her a big Houston welcome.
