HOHYUN’s Journey of Self-Acceptance and Musical Growth

At just 24 years old, HoHyun is already making a significant mark in the music world as a multi-talented artist. A singer, songwriter, producer, and director, HoHyun has embraced a unique, deeply personal style that resonates with listeners worldwide. Born in Japan, raised in Korea, and later moving to Houston, Texas, during his adolescence, HoHyun’s upbringing across three different countries plays a pivotal role in shaping both his artistry and worldview.

Currently based in Los Angeles, the Korean-American artist has gained major recognition with his breakout single “Sunset Boulevard,” which has racked up over 11 million streams. With a loyal fanbase built since the success of this hit, HoHyun continues to capture hearts and minds through his vulnerability and authenticity. His debut album, DRAMA., was released to widespread acclaim and features a short film and three music videos, showcasing his ability to seamlessly blend music with visual storytelling.

The music video for the title track “Drama” was filmed on location in Korea with a remarkably small budget, a testament to his resourcefulness and commitment to his artistic vision. The album itself came to life in just over three months, an ambitious feat considering it was originally intended to be an EP but “willed itself into existence,” as HoHyun puts it. This was a particularly poignant project for the artist, as he hadn’t spent that much time in Korea since his childhood, making it an emotional and personal journey.

HoHyun’s music continues to grow more introspective, and his experiences of self-acceptance are a key theme in his work. As a mental health advocate, he has become a vital voice for the Asian American community, sharing openly about struggles that are often not discussed in mainstream conversations. “You don’t see a lot of Asian Americans talking about mental health, so it’s important for me to be that person for others,” HoHyun explains.

His growth as an artist and advocate has garnered impressive support. With over 116K social media followers, 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and 11 million streams of “Sunset Boulevard,” HoHyun is proving that authenticity and vulnerability can lead to massive success.

This summer, he headlined his first concert in Los Angeles, marking yet another milestone in his rising career.

As HoHyun continues to evolve as both an artist and advocate, his journey towards self-acceptance resonates deeply with fans who look to him for not just music, but a sense of connection and representation. His unique path from filmmaker to musician, coupled with his powerful storytelling and willingness to speak about mental health, makes HoHyun a truly one-of-a-kind artist on the rise.
