From Houston with love, how Trae Tha Truth stepped up to help California wildfire victims

You can help too by stopping by Thursday’s supply drive at 499 St. Emanuel St.

Houston – In the aftermath of the deadly wildfires that ravaged California, rapper and Houston hero Trae Tha Truth, didn’t hesitate to step in and offer his help.

For over a week, we’ve watched the overwhelming coverage of wildfires leveling homes, swallowing up memories, and taking at least two dozen lives. In true Houston fashion, Trae immediately mobilized, bringing his organization, Relief Gang, into action.

Last week Trae announced on Instagram that he was getting ready to head to hardest-hit areas of California, including Altadena and Pasadena. For several days, he and his team toured the damage, distributed food, attended supply drives, and spread the word about other drives in the area. During his stay in California, Trae ordered 300 burgers from Marathon Burger in Los Angeles to hand out to those waiting in supply lines. The burger joint was founded by Sam “Blacc Sam” Asghedom, the brother of late LA rapper Nipsey Hussle.

Helping those who help

Trae recalled a memorable moment from his time in California involving an Altadena man named Mr. Walt, whose emotional story went viral after the wildfires. While Mr. Walt was helping others in the community, his home was destroyed by the fire and he lost everything. Trae partnered with The Source LA and Operation Big Smile to donate $5,500 to his GoFundMe campaign. At the time of this writing, his GoFundMe has raised almost $900,000.

Finding time to help

This has not been an easy time for Trae Tha Truth, following a harrowing five-month search for his daughter, he was still motivated to help.

Trae and Truth were reunited on New Year’s Day, after he was informed by U.S. Marshals saying his daughter had been found in El Centro, California. He reflected on the scary time, with Truth by his side in Studio B running back and forth from the couch to behind the cameras.

From Houston with love

Back in Houston, Trae is hosting a major donation drive in partnership with the Astros, 93.7 The Beat, Impact 13 Foundation, and other local organizations to support wildfire victims. The event will collect everything from blankets to non-perishable food items.
