HOUSTON β Salam and Howdy!
Over a billion Muslims worldwide observe the holy month of Ramadan when they abstain from food and water from dusk to dawn to enhance their self-reflection, strengthen their discipline, and deepen their faith.
If you are familiar with Ramadan, you might know about Iftar - the time when Muslims break their daily fast at sunset.
But have you heard of suhoor? It is the pre-dawn meal when Muslims wake up before sunrise to prepare themselves for the whole day with sufficient food, nutrients, and liquids.
Here in Texas, a husband and wife duo, who also own a social media food blog, Halal Palate, took this tradition and created an all-night Ramadan market called Texas Suhoor Fest. From late at night into the early morning, guests will enjoy this one-of-a-kind food festival filled with delicious flavors, diverse cultures, and unforgettable connections.
Texas Suhoor Fest started in the Dallas area three years ago and is now making its way to Houston this Saturday, March 22 from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. at the University of Houston - Sugar Land. Making it the first traveling suhoor fest in the nation.
And yes, you read right. The festival starts at 11 p.m. and the admission fee is zero dollars.
Houstonians can indulge in the feast all night long and support local businesses and entrepreneurs selling their crafts from clothing to jewelry. Plus, games and fun for the little ones.
