Houston – “Why is the state of Texas still treating it like it’s this low level, everybody’s driving around paper tags on their car, and like, it’s not a big deal?” asked KPRC 2 Investigates’ Amy Davis.
Harris County is at the forefront of people using fraudulent paper tags, whether to avoid paying car registration fees or, in some cases, to cover their tracks.
“You never know who you’re pulling over…because you can have four time felons in the car committing crimes with a temporary tag because it’s so easy to change the temporary tag after the fact,” said Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Melody Waits.
But spotting those fraudulent tags can be easier said than done because they’re not all fake.
Wednesday at 10 p.m., KPRC 2 Investigates shows you how to spot the legitimate paper tags and breaks down what’s being done to stop this from happening.
