17-year-old shot, killed in parking lot near Galena Park High School, deputies say
A teenager has been shot and killed in the Galena Park area, according to deputies.
Officials with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office say the shooting took place at around 5 p.m. in the parking lot of a community center near Galena Park High School Thursday night.
According to deputies, the 17-year-old victim, a senior at the high school, was shot in the neck, face, and arm. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead shortly after, HCSO said.

GUT-WRENCHING VIDEO: Florida woman fights off attacker in apartment gym
A 24-year-old woman working out at her apartment complex’s gym in Tampa, Florida, fought off an attacker who chased her around the facility on January 22, footage released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office shows.
CCTV of the incident shows Nashali Alma working out in the gym.
Alma is then seen opening the door to a man, identified as 25-year-old Xavier Thomas Jones. Alma said she let Thomas-Jones in because she had seen him around the complex before, according to police.
Footage then shows Thomas-Jones approaching Alma and attempting to grab her. Alma can be seen fighting back and being chased around the gym before being pulled to the floor.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott offered no hints about whether he might run for president in a primetime address Thursday night but used it to make a case that hard-line immigration measures, tougher criminal penalties, and a humming economy are a model for the rest of the U.S., the Associated Press reported.

On this week’s Houston Newsmakers with Khambrel Marshall, Hunt says he knows very well what his constituents are most concerned about because he grew up there. He talks about those needs on this week’s program, along with thoughts on getting gun violence under control, the unusual start for Republicans in this 118th Congress, what do to about New York Congressman George Santos, and why he is all in for former President Donald Trump in his campaign to take back the White House in 2024.
Also on this week are the founder of the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, Captain P.J. Matthews (ret.), and his grandson, who is now the CEO and carrying on the museum’s legacy. There is a $13 million campaign underway right now and they talk about the importance of the museum and how everyone can get involved in helping them reach that goal.
