KPRC 2 continues to track the tragic story of an 8-year-old girl, Aliyah Jaico, who was violently sucked to her death at a northwest Houston hotel pool. We learned last night that the pool was remodeled, but was not inspected before re-opening. We also learned the Houston Health Department (HHD) inspects commercial pools in the city on an annual basis, according to the city’s permitting website.

However, in response to a question from KPRC 2 about whether the HHD’s inspections differ when it’s a lazy river-type pool as opposed to a standalone pool, a spokesperson told us, “There is no distinction.” The family will lay Aliyah to rest on Thursday.
