18-wheeler driver dies after smashing truck through restaurant in Richmond

At least 3 people suffer minor injuries

RICHMOND, Texas – A truck driver died after he crashed into several into several cars and smashed through the side of a restaurant in Richmond, deputies said.

The crash was reported just before 9:30 a.m. in the 7300 block of Highway 99 in Fort Bend County.

At least three people were taken to hospitals with minor injuries, deputies said. The Japanese Grill Sushi Bar was evacuated.

Deputies said the truck, which is owned by Matheson, was carrying liquid nitrogen. Hazmat was sent to the scene. 

Video from Sky 2 showed tire marks that appeared to show that the driver of the 18-wheeler traveled across two lanes of traffic and a grassy median before slamming into the building.

The driver was based out of Matheson's Stafford location, according to the company.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and the company is working with authorities.
