For the next five years, an almost life-size replica of Houston's iconic Memorial Hermann Life Flight® helicopter will make its home at CMH's Kidtropolis, USA exhibit.
The Life Flight® model is 40 percent the size of the original and was designed by artist Daniel Hanifan. The project took about six months to complete.
"Memorial Hermann is delighted to partner with the Children's Museum of Houston to share Life Flight®, a uniquely Houston institution," said Wolterman. "Children and their parents visiting the Children's Museum will have the opportunity to learn about one of the seminal moments in our city's history when Life Flight® became the first air ambulance program in Texas 35 years ago. They will learn how it has evolved over the years to become the busiest private air ambulance service in the nation, and in the process, helped to save a countless number of lives."
Life Flight® is the only hospital-based air ambulance service in Houston and surrounding communities. Founded in 1976 by Dr. James "Red" Duke, M.D, the service operates around the clock -- weather permitting -- 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.
Since its inaugural flight, Life Flight® has flown more than 130,000 patient missions. Those missions are commemorated with the Kidtropolis, USA installation.
