Restaurant Report Card for Sept. 27: Roaches

HOUSTON – Whether you're eating high on the hog or you're being thrifty, you expect your food to be clean. It's why we're pointing out violations at a high-dollar steakhouse and a dollar store in this week's Restaurant Report Card.

There was nothing great about the Great Wall Buffet's most recent health inspection. Inspectors said they saw a roach in a container of rice and roaches crawling around under that container at the restaurant at 3333 Telephone Road. The manager wasn't in when KPRC Local 2 stopped by and no one would show us around. Inspectors said they condemned all five pounds of the rice and had the manager call an exterminator that same day.

Right next door, in the same shopping center, inspectors said they found rodent droppings on packaged popcorn, chips and dry beans at Dollar Tree.

Here's something that'll take the sizzle out of your New York strip: Roaches. Inspectors said they found one on a sink in the kitchen of Perry's Steakhouse at 487 Bay Area Blvd.

Inspectors said they found a rodent infestation at Boogie's Chicago Style BBQ at 8035 West Airport.

Inspectors said the bacon at Quizno's at 1113 Commerce was not safe for human consumption because it was off-temperature.

There was more food, including mashed potatoes, greens and rice that had to be condemned at Lucio's at 905 Taft because it was off temperature for more than four hours, inspectors said.

Our A's this week go to Jamba Juice at 11805 Westheimer and Raising Cane's just up the street at 12201 Westheimer.
