Fire erupts at Texas City refinery

TEXAS CITY, Texas – A large fire broke out at a refinery in Texas City on Thursday.

Texas City Office of Emergency Management officials said the fire broke out at the Marathon Galveston Bay Refinery, which was previously owned and operated by BP, at about 3:30 p.m.

Marathon officials said there was a fire inside hosing that attached to a tank.

Thick black smoke was seen for several miles.

Firefighters were letting the flames burn themselves out, but they did put foam on them.

No shelter-in-place orders were issued for the surrounding area.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
