Kingwood teacher accused of inappropriate relationship with student

KINGWOOD, Texas – At Kingwood Park High School parents, students, and faculty are shocked after a popular coach and teacher suddenly resigned amid an allegation of an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Zach Harlan was employed as a social studies teacher and boys soccer and junior varsity football coach. Local 2 went by the coach's home to give him an opportunity to share his side of the story, but there was no answer. Others are speaking on his behalf.

One student tells Local 2 Harlan was very popular and well-liked by students.

The school's principal alerted parents via email.

Lisa Drabing told them in part "Late last week, we were made aware of an allegation of an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and student. The district took immediate action by placing Coach Zachary Harlan on leave. This week, Coach Zachary Harlan resigned. Humble ISD is informing the State Board for Educator Certification of the allegation."

Parent, Roxanne DeLeon also described Harlan as very popular and well-liked. She says the allegation is troubling and confusing.

"It's very heartbreaking," said DeLeon. "But you don't know until it's been investigated because sometimes allegations are not true."

Humble ISD will consider the case and turn over any findings to the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
