HARRIS COUNTY – Two suspects in the murder case of a man found buried beneath a chicken coop have turned themselves in.
Police say Marcelino and Richard Osuna confessed Thursday evening. Veronica Muniz, 27, named the two brothers after police arrested her during a SWAT standoff on Wednesday.
All three are charged with capital murder.
Prosecutors say Muniz confessed that she and two men lured Jesus Leal Valdez to a home on Mohawk in northwest Harris County, claiming they wanted to buy a car.
"Once there, the victim was beaten and stabbed to death and robbed of $300. The complainant was then buried in the back yard of that residence and his vehicle was cut into pieces with a blow torch," said a prosecutor in court.
Valdez, 41, went missing on New Year's Eve. Investigators discovered his body 11 days later wrapped in plastic and buried beneath a chicken coop.
After Valdez was reported missing, prosecutors say his credit card was used six times on Jan. 1 and 2. They say Muniz is the same woman who was caught on surveillance video using Valdez's debit card at a store just down the street from where his body was found.
Muniz, 27, was arrested Wednesday after a SWAT standoff with police at an apartment in Texas City. The body of another man connected to the murder was found inside the apartment. The Galveston County Medical Examiner Office has identified the man as 29-year-old Steven Amado Osuna, who they say died after hanging himself.
