HOUSTON – Houston police said they found a man dead in a church parking lot after they responded to reports of a shooting in southeast Houston Friday.
Officers were called out to the Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church on N. MacGregor Way and Riverside about 9:45 p.m.
According to police, the victim's body was discovered by a cousin who was supposed to give him a ride home.
Police said the victim, identified as 33-year-old Michael Irving, was a member of the church and was there for an event.
As Irving was leaving the church, an unknown number of people drove or walked by and shot the victim once in the head, according to homicide investigators.
Investigators said they do not believe the shooting was motivated by robbery because nothing was stolen from Irving.
