CLEVELAND, Texas – A gas station clerk has died after being shot during a robbery.
Police are looking for three men they say are responsible for the death of 40-year-old Conbino Crasto.
Just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, three armed, masked men entered the Exxon at 1030 FM 2025, police said. According to investigators, one of the men argued with Crasto, then shot him in the chest. The other two thieves took money from the register and from behind the counter before all three ran from the convenience store.
Another clerk was also behind the register during the robbery.
"He told [Crasto] to put all the money in the bag. So, he put the bag in his face and he shot him," said the clerk, who would not give his name out of fear of retaliation.
Crasto was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he later died.
"This was cold blooded murder. The clerk did not attempt to fight/resist the shooter. There was no reason whatsoever to shoot this innocent person," an officer said in a press release.
Crasto's family said his wife and two children live in India. Crasto moved to Texas seven years ago and would send money he earned to his family.
"It was very hard to tell them Bino passed away," said Crasto's cousin, Pasquale.
Officers said the masked men ran off into the woods. They are still wanted.
