Girl intentionally run down by car speaks out about injuries, lessons learned

HOUSTON – A Houston teen intentionally run down during a November fight outside Cullen Middle School is speaking out for the first time since the horrific crime that was caught on a cell phone camera.

DeBreanna Hunter, 14, took her first steps just last week after three surgeries to repair her crushed pelvis and hips.

"My daughter has seven pins that will forever be in her. She has her hip broken from the front and back. Hips were crushed. Pelvis crushed. Her leg was broken. Several internal injuries," her mother Aurelia Hunter said.

DeBreanna and several other girls got into a fight over social media posts on Nov. 6.

Things escalated when a driver, believed to be an adult woman, veered off the street onto the grassy area where the girls were fighting, mowing down DeBreanna.

The teen said she's learned hard lessons in her recovery and wants to go back to school where she says she won't be fighting any more. Her mother said she has learned a lesson too.

"Just be more aware of what's going on on social media because had I been aware, it probably wouldn't have gotten that far at all," Aurelia Hunter said.

Aurelia Hunter said she lost her job because of taking time off to care for her daughter. The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with their expenses.

Houston police are still investigating the case.
