HOUSTON – High school marching bands from across the nation competed for the 15th annual MLK Battle of the Bands Sunday at W.W. Thorne Stadium in Houston.
Several schools from Houston competed, including Stephen F. Austin High School.
"These are very dedicated kids," said Elidio Cisleros, the band's drum major.
The band's director said participating in the battle of the bands is more than simply competing. He said doing so honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
"(They are) learning about the benefits from all the sacrifices that Dr. King made and the whole civil rights movement," said Keavon Runnels, the band's director.
