HOUSTON – Houston is saying goodbye to a hometown legend.
James "Jim" Douglas Goode, the founder of Goode Company Restaurants, King of Mesquite and Texas Legend, has passed away.

He died peacefully at his home on Tuesday at 71 years old.
With no restaurant experience and only a few dollars, Goode and his uncle established Good Company restaurants in 1977. They were dedicated to selling fresh food at an fair price.
The men would take hourly shifts to protect their equipment, meat and themselves. In the beginning, Goode would would go to Kirby Drive and share brisket sandwiches with people in the area when business was slow.

During the nearly 40 years the business has been open, Goode has made a reputation for serving some of the most famous barbeque in Texas. The chain now has seven restaurant locations.
An icon in the Houston restaurant community, Goode will be missed by many.
