HOUSTON – A woman is still in shock after a normal night with her sister turned scary.
Willette Davis says her 18-year-old sister was leaning against the railing of the porch of their apartment at the Alta Vere complex.
"She was leaning over and the balcony decided to collapse," said Davis, who is upset with the apartment complex's management. "I don't know where or don't know how, it decided to hang completely off."
She says her sister nearly fell over, but was able to hold on and pull herself back to safety.
But she got banged up in the process.
"She broke something in our house coming back in, but that's OK because she didn't break herself. She's going through some pain, but that's nothing compared to her losing her life," Davis explained.
On top of the frightening ordeal, the sisters' concern now is safety and getting the balcony repaired.
However, they say they're getting the runaround from the complex's management.
"Well, they might come today, or they might come tomorrow," Davis said. "It was always a bunch of mights. It's never a for sure thing."
So to get some answers, we took their concerns to the apartment complex's management who was quick to say the necessary repairs are now underway.
"It's being taken care of. Contractors are coming out. We just heard about it," Carol Fullerton, a complex supervisor, said.
Davis just hopes that happens sooner rather than later.
"All we want you to do is simply make sure we're safe. I don't feel like we're asking for too much to feel like I'm safe," said Davis.
