Man charged with online solicitation of minor after sting

HOUSTON – A former Boy Scout volunteer and MD Anderson employee has been charged with online solicitation of a minor after he was caught in a police sting.

According to police, David Joseph Sekula, 49, solicited a 13-year-old girl for sex through Craigslist last Friday.

Houston police went to Sekula's house, where he admitted to asking for sex from what he believed to be a minor.

He posted a $10,000 bond and is due in court next month.

Channel 2 Investigates has learned that Sekula was a district member at large with the Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and he's a research lab manager at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

SHAC said Sekula was a volunteer with the district since April 2015 and that he was terminated when the allegations came to light.

The organization released a statement that read, "The behavior included in these allegations is abhorrent and runs counter to everything for which the Boy Scouts of America stands. Upon learning of the allegations we took immediate action to remove this individual and preclude him from any further participation in the Scouting program.”

MD Anderson said Sekula was put on paid administrative leave on Monday, pending the criminal investigation. He was hired on Oct. 6, 2014. They said he has no direct contact with patients.
