HOUSTON – With the kids out of school for spring break, what type of activities do you have planned?

Well if you're looking for something free or cheap to do, Houston on the Cheap has you covered. From the Rodeo to museums, there are plenty of venues around town that offer great deals for spring break fun.

Museums

March 14-19 is Health & Wellness Week at The Health Museum. The museum will feature different fun activities like science shows, arts and crafts, Improv Puppet theater and games. Free Family Thursday is from 2-5 p.m. with free admission March 17.

This year's spring break theme at The Children's Museum is Xtreme Spring Break March 12-20. It will feature an exotic bird show, Drone Flight demo and a Xtreme BMX Block Party. Go free Thursday is March 17 for Free Family Night from 5-8 p.m.

Kids 18 and under get in free at the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens during spring break. Spring break activities are March 9-10, which includes garden tours scavenger hunt and arts and crafts.Free Family Day is Saturday, March 19 form 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Other museums offering free admission Thursday:

  • Houston Museum of Natural Science: 3 - 6 p.m.
  • The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston: 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.
  • Holocaust Museum Houston: 2 - 5 p.m.
  • Houston Museum of African American Culture: 6 - 8 p.m.
  • Buffalo Soldiers National Museum: 1 - 5 p.m.

 

Outdoor activities/ events

Discovery Green is offering a ton of free family fun during spring break March 14 - 18 from noon - 4 p.m. Activities include Mad Science Monday, Workshop Wednesday, Theatrical Thursday, and FUNomenal Friday with a foam party.

The Houston Zoo does not offer special activities during spring break, but students from the following schools get in free any day with a valid ID: University of Houston, Rice University, St. Thomas University, and Texas Southern University.

Learn while having fun at the George Ranch Historical Park for spring break. Kids can experience what it was like as Texas settler. You can make cheese and churn butter with Mrs. Polly Ryon and practice your cowboy skills like branding on the Heritate Trail.  A Spring Break BBQ lunch will be served daily from 12:30 - 2 p.m. March 15-19.

The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo offers value Wednesday on March 16. Select seats are $10 to the rodeo and concert with Jake Owen Wednesday. Kids and seniors are free! Games and food bites at the Kids' Country Carnival are only $2.
