HOUSTON – Police suspect alcohol played a factor in the deadly accident that shut down the Katy Freeway feeder road between Silber and Memorial Woods Saturday morning.
Houston police said a wreck happened around 3 a.m. Saturday.
Officers said the driver of a silver G35 Infiniti was speeding down the highway when she lost control of the vehicle. Investigators said the car hit a median near an entrance ramp before then crashing to a retaining wall.
Afterwards, police said the woman slammed into a light pole in the grassy area dividing the service road from the freeway.
The female driver was taken to a hospital where she later died, police said. Officers said her passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
At this time they believe alcohol may have been involved.
The victim’s identity has not been released.
